We all know that small and medium sized business owners have to cut costs in order to keep overhead low and cash flow, well… flowing. But one of the most important areas can often get cut too much, and too soon, and that is the area of Marketing & Branding.
Where do I begin?
When starting out, the first step after writing a business plan, is to sit down (preferably over a delicious Starbucks!) with a graphic designer who will guide you through the process of creating and establishing your brand. When choosing a graphic designer, make sure you check out their portfolio (the pride of any artist!) to see if you gel with his or her style.
Can I go cheap?
Don’t go for the cheaper option just to save a few bucks! The old adage is true: you get what you pay for. A logo is an investment and it will stick with you through out the lifespan of your business, so make sure your final decision on colour, font and image is one you’ll like 2 years from now.
Where do I put my new logo?
Carry your new logo throughout all your marketing materials. This includes website, business cards, letterhead and envelopes. You should be proud of your logo, and like any business owner, you should plaster it over everything related to your business. This will establish your presence in the market and your brand will become more and more recognizable to potential customers.
